Join the National Music Centre (NMC) for a special performance on February 10 at 8:00 pm with multi-platinum Canadian rock giants The Northern Pikes, who will be recording their next album at Studio Bell.
Last year, The Northern Pikes celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Big Blue Sky, with their first national tour in over a decade. Following a sold-out show at the King Eddy, The Northern Pikes will return to Studio Bell for a sneak peek performance of tracks off their forthcoming new record and fan favourites from their lengthy musical catalogue, including hits from Big Blue Sky. Tickets for The Northern Pikes Live at Studio Bell go on sale to the public on Wednesday, January 10 at 10:00 am, and will be available here.
Hit track, “Teenland,” appears on The Northern Pikes’ debut, Big Blue Sky.
“After visiting Studio Bell in November and seeing the National Music Centre’s incredible collection, we knew we had to come back to perform and we knew we had to come back and make a record,” said Jay Semko, singer-songwriter and bassist for The Northern Pikes. “We were blown away by the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, in particular, so the truck will play a key role in the making of our next album.”
Recently, Randy Bachman also visited Studio Bell to record an album using the mighty mobile, further adding to the truck’s rock lineage. Given the demand, NMC will be offering more access to its collection and recording spaces via commercial use.
“In 2018, we’ll officially launch our commercial studios to the public, offering musicians a once-in-a-lifetime recording experience and access to a historic collection of instruments and sound equipment,” said Jesse Moffatt, NMC’s Director of Collections. “Our collection philosophy is about access, and this program will help to provide that in a more tailored, customized way.”

About The Northern Pikes
The Northern Pikes have been a band for over 30 years, but you’re going to have to forgive them if they’re acting like a new group. Earlier in 2017, The Pikes put together a special 30th anniversary edition of their beloved debut album, Big Blue Sky, featuring hits “Teenland,” “Things I Do For Money” and “Dancing In A Dance Club,” which helped the group explode out of Saskatchewan and become fixtures and stars on radio and MuchMusic. Along with the release, they hit the road for a cross-Canada anniversary tour—their first tour in over a decade! With the wind at their backs and a spark of new energy, the band has begun work on the follow-up to their anniversary album. It will be recorded at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, and is expected for release in 2018. For more information, please visit thenorthernpikes.com.
