Music News Monday: Sloan’s “Twice Removed” tour, CCMA Award winners and more

Indie-rock icons Sloan kicked off their tour in support of the Twice Removed reissue last week with shows that will see them wind across the prairies and into the US over the next two months, including a stop here in Calgary on Wednesday night at Republik. They're also combing through their video archives to put out more bonus material like the video above for “Penpals”, and you can follow along with this tour blog.

Last night's Canadian Country Music Association awards gala took place in Saskatoon, with Dean Brody walking away as the big winner, taking Album of the Year for the second straight year, in addition to Male Artist of the Year. Johnny Reid was also the Fan Choice Award winner for the fourth year in a row, at an evening packed full of performances – and set pieces from NMC's collection of radios! Check out a selection of images from the gala at CBC's photo gallery.

A pile of big-name performers have just announced Canadian tour dates over the next few months, including Paul McCartney's first show in BC since he played there with The Beatles in 1964. Macca hits Vancouver and Edmonton in November, while Lady Gaga will also play Vancouver to kick off her North American tour in January and Rihanna will swing through major Canadian cities next March.

Voting starts today for SOCAN's annual Echo Songwriting prize, with Kathleen Edwards, Sloan, Japandroids, Dan Mangan and John K. Samson in the running for the $5,000 prize. Head here to make your choice between now and October 10, and you could even win a new iPad while doing so if you're lucky.

Finally, Vancouver pop-rockers The Belle Game have announced their new album Ritual Tradition Habit will come out October 9 on Boompa Records but you can stream “Wait Up For You” below to get a taste of what's to come.
