Hailing from Saskatoon, Jordan Cook (or Reignwolf), is the current opening act for ten tour dates on Black Sabbath’s upcoming North American tour.

Cook has already made a name for himself when he opened for the Pixies last summer, and was named one of Rolling Stone’s “10 New Artists You Need to Know” back in January.

Reignwolf’s hometown of Saskatoon is included as a tour stop for April 18.

Reignwolf will remain on the road for an international tour. Dates are available here.

Just after cancelling dates for his own scheduled tour, singer-songwriter Jesse Winchester passed away Friday morning after battling cancer of the esophagus. He was 69.

Winchester landed in Montreal after fleeing the Vietnam War draft notice in the 1960s. He made a name for himself recording several albums the following decade, including writing songs recorded by Anne Murray, Elvis Costello, and George Strait.

His inability to tour the United States at this time lead him to be known mostly for his songwriting—a talent he was recognized for in 2007 by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

In 1990, he was nominated for a JUNO Award for Best Country Male Vocalist.

The CBC reports that his recent tour schedule was cancelled last month as a result of his illness

News of his death resulted in an outpouring of emotion from the Canadian music industry, including tweets from major name journalists, bands, and media.

Anyone interested in purchasing his music may plan to do so this Saturday, April 19 for Record Store Day, as Canada and the rest of the world get ready for the one-day a year to recognize independently own record stores.

Started in 2007 in the United States, Record Store Day celebrates local vinyl community, music community, and the local music community.

Exclaim! has put together a list of exclusive releases and re-releases of albums set to sell publicly on Record Store Day, including Blue Rodeo’s Diamond Mine LP on special blue and green vinyl. Blue Rodeo is also this year’s Record Store Day Canada’s Spokesband for 2014.

Participating stores in your local area can be found here, via the official Record Store Day venue finder.
