Music News Monday: The Road to Massey Hall, Beyoncé rocks Super Bowl, Sam Roberts reissue and more!

Announced this week, Six Shooter Records and Whitehorse will be releasing The Road to Massey Hall, a six-track tribute to the historic venue and the artists that have graced its iconic stage. The iconic-in-their-own-right duo will be paying homage through, “a series of songs and videos highlighting those who have come to be identified with Canada’s premiere venue through memorable performances and live recordings.” The album will feature Neil Young’s “Winterlong”, Blue Rodeo’s “Dark Angel”, and more from Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan and Ron Sexsmith. Check out Whitehorse’s video for the classic folk song “Un Canadien Errant” below, before the album comes out on iTunes February 15.

Beyoncé’s much-anticipated Super Bowl halftime show did not disappoint, with a mélange of top hits, swagger-filled dance moves and quality vocals giving the audience a whole lotta entertainment. To top it off, Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Knowles on stage giving a lot of love to the audience and bringing back the classics. Maybe a way to promote the recently released album Love Songs, but doubtful the Super Bowl audience or the hundreds of thousands of YouTube viewers really minded.

Paper Bag Records announced this week the re-release of Sam Roberts' The Inhuman Condition on vinyl. A long awaited re-issue of the 2002 breakthrough album, the limited edition 500 copy 180 gram blue vinyl EP will be available on March 5. Major grippage.

Around the world: Steven Tyler dresses in drag on American Idol, donning a wig tackier than Nicki Minaj; crooner Michael Bublé will be hosting this year's JUNO Awards on April 21 in Regina, with record numbers of women aged 35 to 50 expected to tune in; and 22 years after their last release, My Bloody Valentine released m b v this week and fans cried out with an intense and confusing mixture of sadness and joy.
