Quarter Note Video Tweet: Unpacking the Kirckman harpsichord

This gorgeous looking (and sounding) harpsichord was built by brothers Jacobus and Abraham Kirckman in England in 1790. They learned the Antwerp style of building harpsichords from Flemish builder Hermann Tabel after their family immigrated from France. The Kirckmans dominated the English harpsichord market during the second half of the 18th century and also began building pianos towards the 1770's. Their last harpsichord was built in 1809 but the firm kept on with upright and grand pianos until they were acquired by Collard in 1896.

You can come see it in person for yourself during a public tour of the NMC collection!
