Stantec donates $340,000 to National Music Centre

April 28, 2016

Stantec and the National Music Centre (NMC) are proud to announce Stantec’s $340,000 in-kind donation to the construction of Studio Bell, NMC’s new facility that will open to the public this July. In celebration of this gift, Stantec will name Studio Bell’s Volunteer Lounge, which will be a green room for community volunteers.

“We have relied on the expertise of Stantec throughout this journey to build a home for music in Canada,” said NMC’s president and CEO Andrew Mosker. “We are grateful for this donation, and for the hard work that Stantec has contributed to the completion of Studio Bell.”

Stantec provided mechanical engineering services for the facility, which included installing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems into the dramatic building shapes, ensuring mechanical noise will not interfere with the acoustics of the building. Studio Bell requires close control of the temperature and humidity in exhibit spaces to preserve artifacts, while handling various occupancy levels in the exhibit at any given time. Stantec championed resiliency efforts, ensuring all mechanical equipment in Studio Bell is located in the penthouse, mitigating damage caused by potential natural disasters.

“Studio Bell is not only a centerpiece here in the City of Calgary, it is a building that will be recognizable across Canada. This is a place that will encourage innovation and creativity.” says Tino DiManno, chief business officer, Stantec. “At Stantec, the communities we support, work in, and live in, inspire our work. Our employees’ genuine dedication to supporting our community makes the volunteer lounge a perfect fit for our partnership with the National Music Centre.”

In honour of the donation, a coffee break for the construction workers—provided by Rosso Coffee Roasters—was held at Studio Bell earlier this morning, with over 160 workers on-site taking a break in celebration of their efforts.

With a large company presence in Calgary and across Canada, Stantec’s support of the National Music Centre was a natural fit. The partnership between Stantec, and NMC began in 2011, when the project was in the concept and design stage. Stantec has worked with construction partners to create a space that will inspire artists from across Canada.
