Ojibway experimental jazz musician Chuck Copenace (member of the Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation in Treaty 3 and now based in Winnipeg) describes how he found the trumpet, playing jazz as a young Indigenous person, and the healing power of music.
In 2022, Chuck Copenace, along with four other emerging Indigenous artists, converged at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, for a five-day intensive artist development program that offered career guidance, mentorship from music industry leaders, and the opportunity for artists to connect with each other and share ideas.
