Lacey Hill, an artist from the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation in southwestern Ontario, shares a moving message of love and acceptance on her song, “Mm Hmm,” which channels the Haudenosaunee teaching that there is good in everyone.
The song, which was written by Hill during the National Music Centre’s OHSOTO’KINO Music Incubator program, reflects on the wounds of shame and intergenerational trauma, and was created in the hopes of helping others heal.
In 2025, Hill joined a group of Indigenous artists from across Canada at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, for a five-day intensive artist development program. The experience provided career guidance, mentorship from leading music industry professionals, and meaningful opportunities for collaboration and creative exchange among the artists.
