Jesse Moffatt
The founding member of NMC’s Collections department, Jesse Moffatt has been with the organization since 2000, when it was then known as the Chinook Keyboard Centre. Jesse is a musical instrument designer, restorer, and conservation specialist by training, with knowledge bridging old and new technologies. During the building of the National Music Centre’s new home, Studio Bell, Jesse was heavily involved in the project’s design and development. He currently oversees the creation of new exhibitions, development and preservation of NMC Collections, artist access to NMC’s vast collection of “living” musical instruments and NMC’s production team.
Born and raised Calgarian. On weekends, you will find Jesse playing competitive soccer, on the sidelines coaching one of his kid’s teams, cooking up a storm for family and friends, or in his studio creating his next unique design.
His ‘street pianos’ were also designed to foster community as gathering places for sharing music. He received the 2015 Downtown Calgary Vitality Award for enhancing the downtown through art and culture using his unique street pianos. In 2013, Jesse was awarded the Hero of the Flood award by the Province of Alberta for his efforts in the preservation of cultural property during the Alberta flood recovery efforts.
