For National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, listen, reflect, and learn through music with a playlist curated by David McLeod (Minegoziibe Anishinabe, formerly Pine Creek First Nation, MB), the curator of National Music Centre (NMC)’s award-winning Speak Up! exhibit and the Chair of NMC’s National Indigenous Programming Advisory Committee.
The playlist includes songs by Tanya Tagaq and Jeremy Dutcher, who are both featured in the exhibit, as well as Jayli Wolf, Julian Taylor, and others. Each song reckons with the legacy of colonialism and residential schools, including the loss of language and culture, and the ongoing work to reclaim and revitalize them.
