Nehiyaw-Dene and Métis spoken word/rap artist Zoey Pricelys Roy (member of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation in Treaty 6) shares her fascination with linguistics, rhythm, and flow, and how, at a young age, she found poetry and learned to subvert the alphabet to aid in her word play.
In 2022, Zoey Roy, along with four other emerging Indigenous artists, converged at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, for a five-day intensive artist development program that offered career guidance, mentorship from music industry leaders, and the opportunity for artists to connect with each other and share ideas.
Sponsored by TD, the OHSOTO’KINO Music Incubator is supporting the next wave of Indigenous talent and amplifying Indigenous stories through music.
